I’ve been terrible at posting update pictures. W I’ve been terrible at posting update pictures. We have been working on the windows and doors the past few weeks and are just about done. It’s feeling more like a house everyday!
We finished the roof over the porch this weekend. We finished the roof over the porch this weekend. Woot woot! Such an amazing feeling to be finished! I have felt like we’ve been walking through a pit of tar for the last 3 months but we got it done! We decided to hire out the shingles because we just don’t have the time. I can’t wait to see it finished its been a long time coming and lesson in patience that’s for sure. Now we are moving onto windows and doors
We stained the timber frame on Friday. So glad we We stained the timber frame on Friday. So glad we got it done before the snow hit over the weekend. Thanks to my wonderful in-laws for coming to help and to my sister-in-law Alex for watching Braiden for the day. So grateful to have such selfless people in my life who come to the rescue without even being asked. We have been so blessed!
Our front door finally showed up today! We’ve on Our front door finally showed up today! We’ve only been waiting for it for two months now. It’s a hard time to be building with everything being delayed and back ordered with COVID. I’m glad I ordered it when I did cause we are about ready to start installing doors and windows! So exciting!!!
Installing our timber frame porch has been one of Installing our timber frame porch has been one of my favorite days so far. Finally something beautiful to look at. I’ve been staring at dirt, foam and 2x4s for far too long! A huge thanks to family and friends for making it possible. These beams are so massive and we couldn’t have done it alone. We hired Wasatch timber post and beam in Lindon, Ut they did an amazing job.
Framing the dormers was way more challenging than Framing the dormers was way more challenging than we ever thought they would be. It was worth it though, they really add a lot of character to this side of the house. I can’t wait to see the whole roof finished we are getting so close!
Putting up trusses and sheeting the roof. Setting Putting up trusses and sheeting the roof. Setting the trusses was exciting! It was scary watching them sway every time the wind picked up but it felt amazing to see it finally start looking like a house.
Stacking and pouring our main floor blocks. Pour d Stacking and pouring our main floor blocks. Pour day was pretty stressful and crazy! We started it off with waiting around for almost two hours for the first cement truck to even show up. After we finally got to pouring we were feeling pretty good because things were going smoothly. The pump truck had made it all the way around the first pass and then right at the end a doorway blew out! Luckily we had a step formed up by the door in case we had leftover cement. Well it filled the step right up and we thankfully didn’t have to clean up too much cement. After that we were on edge the rest of the pour waiting for it to blow out again. Which it did, near a window on the second pass. That one took some more time to clean up. In the end we survived the day and I’m just glad it’s in the books! We are so thankful for our family and friends who helped us out this day. You can never have enough help when it comes to cement work.
Excavation, footers, and foundation work. This too Excavation, footers, and foundation work. This took us four long months to get to this point. I’m so grateful for our family and friends who have showed up to help give us a boost when we are so burned out and exhausted. More pictures to come soon!
I can’t believe it’s already been over a year I can’t believe it’s already been over a year since we bought our property. This is what it looked like last fall. I can’t believe how far we’ve come! I’ll post more pictures this week of our house building adventures from the past several months. We have learned so much and are so grateful for this experience to learn and grow!
